Aspect Ratio and Resolution Overview

Aspect Ratio is the proportion between the width and height of a TV screen

Resolution defines the amount of pixels displayed on the screen

Difference Between 1080p and 1080i

i or p refers to the scanning technology

  • i = Interlaced scanning technology; it scans and refreshes even and odd lines separately
    • Produces very sharp pictures in general when the image is still or has little motion

  • p = Progressive scanning technology (newer); scans and refreshes all lines at the same time
    • Progressive scanning produces smoother motion with less blurring
    • Perfect for high action movies and sports

Aspect Correction Mode Overview

  • Panel: adds letterbox bars or side bars to the picture to fill the screen, keeping the program's original aspect ratio

  • Zoom: enlarges the picture to fit the 16:9 screen without distortion

  • Full: stretches the picture to fill the entire TV screen without adding letterbox bars or side bars
