Aspect Ratio and Resolution

- Aspect Ratio is the proportion between the width and height of a TV screen
- Resolution defines the amount of pixels displayed on the screen
- 4K (Available on some TiVos)
- 1080p (Available on TiVo)
- 1080i
- 720p
- 480i (Standard Definition)
- i or p refers to the scanning technology
- i = Interlaced scanning technology. It scans and refreshes even and odd lines separately, but produces very sharp pictures in general when the image is still or has little motion
- p = Progressive scanning technology (newer). Scans and refreshes all lines at the same time. Progressive scanning produces smoother motion with less blurring. It's perfect for high action movies and sports.

4:3 HDTV (Square)

- Power the cable box off but leave the TV on (press the CBL power button on the remote)
- Press Menu (on the converter or remote) within 3 seconds. The user settings screen will appear
- Using [LEFT], [RIGHT] keys, change TV Type to:
- Press the CBL power button twice to get back to live TV and test the picture

16:9 HDTV (Widescreen)

- Power the cable box off but leave the TV on (press the CBL power button on the remote)
- Press Menu (on the converter or remote) within 3 seconds. The user settings screen will appear
- Using [LEFT], [RIGHT] keys, change TV Type to 16:9
- Scroll down to HDMI/YPbPr OUTPUT (or DVI/YPbPr OUTPUT depending on model)
- Using [LEFT], [RIGHT] keys keys, change setting to the highest resolution your HDTV is capable of (example: 1080i)
- Scroll down to 4:3 Override
- This setting will display a 4:3 image the way you want to fit on a 16:9 screen
- Set to STRETCH. If set to anything else, you will get left and right borders on a 4:3 picture
- Press the CBL power button twice to get back to live TV and test the picture
